Two Taiwanese Firms Become Apple Watch IC Substrate Suppliers

TAIPEI, Taiwan — Two Taiwanese IC substrate firms, Kinsus Interconnect Technology and Nan Ya PCB outshined the Japanese IC substrate big firm Ibiden to become the Apple Watch IC substrate suppliers. It's rarely seen that the Taiwanese component firms to get all Apple's orders, Kinsus and Nan Ya PCB receiced orders from the wearable, Apple Watch, which will be put in low-volume production in October and will be in high-volume production in 2015.

Source said that Apple Watch will hit the market on February 14, 2015, right on the Valentine's Day. Though it's price tag is a bit high than other competitors resulted in some of the analyst gave a negative reviews over it, there are still a lot of people give positive reviews toward the prospect of the Apple Watch, considering Apple Watch will open the door of the wearables that will directly boost the wearables to be popularized.
“Apple has finally unveiled its Apple Watch, which we expect to trigger more consumer interest once it starts shipping in 2015,” said Angela McIntyre, research director at Gartner. “Apple introduced three smartwatch models that will sell at a wide price range, with the lowest starting at $349. As with the iPhone, Apple's high-price strategy for the Watch will limit its market share; yet, with its attention to design and the user interface, we believe this product will attract many users.”
Ibiden had received the major IC substrate orders from Apple it the past, however, this time due to Apple Watch adapted System in Package (SiP) frame, and ASE Kaohsiung has become the only provider of Apple Watch's Sip that help Kinsus and Nan Ya PCB to penetrate into Apple's suppliers.
Source said that Kinsus occupied 70 percent of Apple Watch IC substrate, while Nan Ya PCB is around 20 to 30 percent. It will be put in low-volume production in October and will be in high-volume production in 2015.
