ARM Launches 4K-Supporting Cortex-A72 Processor Using TSMC 16nm FF+

TAIPEI, Taiwan - ARM released its Cortex-A72 64 bit mobile processor architecture Yesterday in Beijing, the processor can support 4K2k UHD resolution, and be adopted by MediaTek, Hass, Rockchip and other 10 customers, and used TSMC's FinFET Plus(16FF+) technology.

The new Cortex-A72 featured with 4K2k resolution supporting, and can operate word related applications smoothly. By using this new architecture phone makers may be to launch next generation smartphone which equipped with 4K panel, meanwhile, give mobile phone a basic computing power for office work.

It also represents that the Cortex-A72 may lead the penetration of 4K phone to increase significantly in the next year.

ARM said that for catching the increasingly specifications of software and hardware, the performance of mobile phone processor have to elevate also, to alow low-end mobile phone users to enjoy high-performance applications. The performance of A72 processor is 50 times than five years ago, increased 3.5 times and power consumption reduced by 75% compared to last year.

ARM also noted that the end product equipped with A72 will be available in 2016.
