TAIPEI, Taiwan - Taiwanese IC designers Solid State System (3S), announced yesterday that it has rolled out a new MEMS microphones featuring with industry's smallest size and lowest operating voltage. Its operating voltages can be reduced to 1.2V, has been formally put into production, and expected begin shipping in June this year.
Hu Ding-Zhong, general manager of Solid State System, said, 3S has committed in developing MEMS microphone technology for many years, this new 1.2V single-chip MEMS microphone not only provide ultra-low operating voltage range, but also to enhance the maximum sound pressure and reduce input current. It is ideally for mobile devices and wearable devices, which used single battery or button battery design.
In addition to the low-voltage and low-power, the size of this new product is only 2.7x2.0x1.0mm, far less than the competitor's products. It can achieve ultra-thin design of wearable products, and ave space for placing other components.
3S said that currently their digital microphones has steady shipments, wafer-level-packaging MEMS microphones has been verified by some of wearable devices and Bluetooth headset customers, and has the opportunity to cut into the smartphone market in the second half of this year.
