Published: May 08,2015

The groundbreaking ceremony of BOE Gen 6 LTPS/AMO-LED production line was held On May 8 in Chengdu Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone (Chengdu Hi-tech Zone). The new production line is intended to produce high-end mobile phone panels and new displays for mobile devices, involving a total investment of RMB 22 billion. The project is expected to come into operation in the first half of 2017.

"Chengdu owns an integrated industrial chain of electronic information industry, multiple talents and human resources, a massive market with favorable transportation and logistics infrastructures, which is a gifted competitive advantage in developing photonics display industry," says Liu Xiaodong, COO of BOE Technology Group. The project will continue to grow BOE's global competition in high-end small size semiconductor display devices.

Chengdu, as one of the most important manufacturing bases in electronic information industry around China, witnesses a rapid growth of photonics display industry. Since 2007, BOE, China National Building Materials and TIANMA have successively established manufacturing bases in Chengdu. In August 2014, China Electronics Corporation announced to invest RMB 28 billion in building a project of Gen 8.5 Panel production line.

Chengdu Hi-tech Zone, as the hub of the photonics display industry of Chengdu, will focus on "New-type Display Device" which has been listed in its major supportive category of strategic emerging industries. In future, the zone will continually enhance the productivity of Gen 4.5 TFT-LCD production line, while introduce more advanced generations of production lines like TFT-LCD 8 and develop PMOLED, AMOLED, laser display devices and 3D display products.
