TAIPEI, Taiwan — People hook up the Internet through a single computer in a bid to access online in the past, however, as Internet of Things (IoT) is coming as an inevitable trend and rising like what the founder of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Morris Chang described on the point of one of the next big things in the whole semiconductor industry, accessing online has become a concept of Internet everywhere nowadays. The home broadband is no doubt the infrastructure to realize IoT and smart home.

What is the so-called “home broadband”? According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), any transmission rate of more than 4Mbps, can be called broadband. Therefore, the home broadband means the speed of Internet connection of home, included fixed Ethernet and wireless that are over 4Mbps.But today, we focus on “G”, Gigabyte.

ZyXEL: Wi-Fi AP, PLC connector, NAS provider

The company said in a statement that its network solution that implemented at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy in India. In other words, it is an alternative usage apart from home broadband.

According to the company, the largest think tank on public economics and policy in India, the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP) in South Delhi, was unable to meet the increasing demands on their wireless network from researchers and staff, many using multiple mobile devices including laptops, tablets, smart phones, and more. Hence, a computer center team on site decided not only did the wireless network need to be upgraded and properly secured, but that every building on campus and all lawn areas and open spaces must have full wireless coverage.

The ZyXEL network solution selected uses a wireless controller and access points to deliver non-stop service and the world class Wi-Fi performance demanded by such an important national institution.

“The ZyXEL Controller helped us to meet BYOD challenges. As more and more people are bringing their own devices to work, the workplace has gradually evolved from one device for one person to multiple devices for many people. The ZyXEL NXC2500 controller has given us the satisfaction of a product designed to work with ZyXEL Access Points with no pre-configuration required.” said Mr. N.K. Singh, EDP Manager of NIPFP.

The company has another successful example, ZyXEL Upgraded Indian Research Facility with GEPON Network SolutionConducting ground-breaking research in paper science and technology, India’s Central Pulp & Paper Research Institute (CPPRI) is one of the nation’s leading industrial tech institutions. However, the large campus with facilities spread over 48 hectares recently needed a network upgrade to bring its IT capabilities into the 21st century.

ZyXEL was prepared to step in with a scalable, upgradable and eco-friendly GEPON network solution. The company was able to provide an end-to-end Gigabit solution at significant savings over copper cable, that would be future-proof and secure for years to come.

“The solution given by ZyXEL was based on the futuristic technology of FTTX on GEPON to serve our purposes of mobility, support future applications like IPTV, cable TV, smart campus applications, and building management applications, along with an existing need for triple play (voice, video, & data), surveillance and Wi-Fi.” said N.K Naik, Tech. Officer of CPPRI.

“At the same time, it contributes to the objective of energy conservation, real estate conservation, keeping waste to a minimum and keeping the OPEX & CAPEX optimized. ZyXEL introduced us to their white paper on the concept of saving on electricity-maintenance-real estate respectively, which was very much in line with our objective of eco-friendly and green technology.” added N.K Naik.

ITRI: aims at standard promoting, technology and solutions outsourcing

The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) launched an App that has the broadband network communication feature integrated with other five technology categories, namely, SIP, video streaming, system integration, mobile App, and service platform into Juiker, a proprietary communications platform for enterprises.

Based on ITRI, the technology further ensures the best communication quality and lowest cost based on the network status of the communicating parties involved. More than million downloads and more than 7,800 businesses have applied to join the service after its formal release in November of 2013.

Juiker combines every way people want to interact with friends and family via integrated services on high-quality free calls, messaging and file sharing for free. Juiker also assists an enterprise operator in the saving of investment in inter-organizational telephone switching systems. One of Juiker’s distinguishing features is its ability to transform an employee’s personal cell phone into a mobile company phone extension. Inter-organizational calls are certainly free of charge.

Allegedly, “Juiker” stands for “Juice Up Intelligent KERnel”. “Juiker” means wisdom cultivation, and pronounce like “inviting friends” in Taiwanese. Taiwan jade-tree frog is used as the brand image of Juiker, which symbolize the spirits of MIT (Made in Taiwan).

Chunghwa Telecom: ISP, high speed internet provider

Chunghwa Telecom is one of the leading telecommunications providers in Taiwan, MoD is the most unique product that is designed under the home broadband infrastructure.

Chunghwa Telecom’s (CHT) MoD is a platform channel for multimedia contents. Leveraging CHT’s broadband network (such as dynamic ADSL and fiber network), CHT can aggregate television channels, on-demand videos and other applications to appear on users’ television via MoD set-top boxes, so that all viewers can enjoy ample and exciting programs at the convenience of their comfortable homes.

Moreover, MoD’s video-on-demand (VoD) function enables user to select the preferred programs for viewing at any time, as well as rewinding and forwarding the program as necessary. In addition, due to MoD’s two-way networking characteristics, users are able to enjoy various entertaining and interactive activities.

In conclusion, the development of home broadband realized many things altogether which couldn’t be imagine before. To sum up, for the time being, the home broadband seemed to focus on home entertainment, it will surely be the basis of developing IoT.
