BusinessKorea reported that Apple is seriously considering of using flexible active organic light emitting diode (AMOLED) display panel as iPhone’s new screen, the fastest launch date may be in 2018. If Apple really uses OLED panel as iPhone’s display screen, it will lead to overcapacity of the LTPS panel.

Compared to LCD, OLED panel has better color saturation, accuracy and brightness. Apple is using OLED display for its Apple Watch, which are produced by LG Display (LGD) and Samsung.

Taiwanese panel makers, including AUO, Innolux and CPT, are all have AMOLED production technology, but have very small amount of production, and even have gradually turned to wearable applications which needed special sizes. If Apple really shifts to curved AMOLED display, may force panel makers to adjust their existing production strategies.
