1,000 More Peppers Will go on Sale on July 31

TAIPEI, Taiwan — With the first batch of Pepper robots were selling like hotcakes, launched on June 20, and sold out within one minute. 1,000 more Pepper robots developed by Japanese telecom giant Softbank Corp. and Foxconn Technology’s subsidiary Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. will hit the Japanese market on July 31, according to Softbank.

In accordance with Softbank, Pepper, which can not only read human emotions, but also the world’s first robot that can express feelings of its own based on how people interact with it, is priced at 198,000 yen (US$1,611) per unit.

Furthermore, Softbank said that it can produce about 1,000 robots per month and that there are around 200 related apps available, including those that let Pepper maintain a photographic journal or even teach English to children.

Moreover, Hon Hai plans to add at least 10,000 industrial robots to its production lines in China in 2016 as it targets 30 percent automation at those factories by 2020.
