TAIPEI, Taiwan — AU Optronics Corp. (AUO) showcased a 5-inch bendable AMOLED prototype at 2015 Touch Taiwan, which has been viewed as the smart investment of the company. This prototype that integrates a sensor that can detect when user bend the panel. The idea that detecting the size and direction of the manipulation can help create a user interface that complements regular touch functions.

Nevertheless, the AMOLED panel can detect the size, strength and direction of any user manipulation. While the 5-inch display size seems suited to smartphones, the display could be used for other consumer electronics, such as e-readers.
The 5-inch bendable AMOLED features flexible AMOLED, AUO’s novel sensor integrated flexible display, six-DoF (degrees of freedom) bending detection, bendable and unbreakable, according to the company.
However, specifications of the 5-inch bendable AMOLED can’t be missed. Resolution (pixel) HD (720 x 1280), 295 PPI of pixel density, LTPS of TFT type, display mode is top emission OLED, substrate is plastic film, encapsulation is thin film/ barrier film, panel thickness in 0.2 mm with film type of bending sensor.
Furthermore, there are many layers that consisted of the display. For instance, plastic cover, 5-inch flexible AMOLED, base frame, fixture casing, rubber base and flexible bending sensor.
In addition, the time to market of this bendable AMOLED still remained unknown commented FC Hsiang.
