TAIPEI, Taiwan — Acer and Asus rival in gaming devices at the 2015 Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin (IFA). The rivalry between Acer and Asus was never clear before than at this year’s show, and the latter threw down a challenge to its competitors, stating that others had copied its relatively subdued, black-and-red design. The Predator 17 from Acer is proven that Asus’ claim is not without merit. Cover the large, glowing Predator logo, and it’d be easy to mistake the Predator 17 for Asus’ G751.

Ringing in the ears, Tien Wu, Chief Operating Officer of ASE Group pointed out at the press conference of the SEMICON Taiwan 2015 that differentiation and innovation are keys for Taiwan semiconductor industry to survive.
However, the designs between the two are definitely different, but they have similarities, like the color scheme and use of hard, angular aesthetics that look inspired by the F117A stealth fighter.
Asus, frustrated by this, has taken a different approach with its Asus G752, which now has a silver primary coat reminiscent of a T800 with bright, chrome orange highlights.
As to the hardware specs, the Acer Predator 17 offers the typical array of chips, including 6th-generation Intel quad-core mobile processors, Nvidia GTX graphics up to the 980M, up to 512GB of NVMe/PCIe hard drive space, up to 64GB of memory, and a 1080p display, with 4K optional.
Meanwhile, Gaming notebooks often struggle to stand out from the crowd because the hardware inside each is so similar. According to Acer, the company’s tactic is the introduction of unique cooling features to lower temperatures. These include an “AeroBlade” fan that’s extremely thin, but is said to offer greater performance than any previous design
Both device sport Intel’s Core processor and Nvidia’s GTX graphics have a dynamic, automatic overclocking feature that’s based on power draw and thermal limits.
Furthermore, among Asus latest ROG products, one is called the GX700, the 17-inch system will offer a 4K display, overclockable Intel K-Series mobile processors, Nvidia GeForce GTX graphics and a water-cooling system to keep everything cool.
When talking about the successor of the G751, the G752. This 17-inch notebook will be equipped with Skylake quad-core processors (the Core i7-6700HQ, to be specific), Windows 10, and will be offered in several different configurations to satisfy the needs of the hardcore gamer.
Moreover, the entry-level version will have a GTX 965M and a 1080p display, while the step-up version will have a GTX 970M with the same screen. The most powerful version will include a GTX 980M and have an optional 4K panel.
Last but not least, there are more and more similarities between products of Acer and Asus. In other words, there are less and less differentiation and innovation of the so-called “two A”.
