Acer Forecast Subsidy Boost

TAIPEI, Taiwan — Acer Inc. is optimistic that its smartphone sales in Taiwan would rise at least 25 percent to more than 100,000 units next year from this year’s 80,000, it is believed due to the company to cash in on a government short-term stimulus package aimed at boosting the local economy.

Acer Taiwan Operations President Towny Huang said on November 4, the company’s smartphone business is expected to benefit from the government’s recent announcement of a subsidy for consumers upgrading from 2G phones to 4G smartphones. About 1 million people still use 2G phones in the nation, Huang said.
In other words, the government short-term stimulus package would make a new wave of replacement for 2G phones.
Meanwhile, the company launched four smartphones priced at under NT$6,500 (US$200) in the domestic market on November 4 in an attempt to cash in on a government short-term stimulus package aimed at boosting the local economy.
