In the past, only a few other smartphone makers have built fingerprint scanning into their phones, as with the Motorola Mobility Atrix 4G in 2011 and the Samsung Galaxy Alpha 4G in 2014. Apple iPhone 5s is the first smartphone implemented this technology into the operating system called Touch ID.

As a matter of fact, fingerprint scanning has been built into Apple iPhone 6s, LG V10, Samsung Note 5 and Sony Z5 Premium. Finally, Chinese smartphone makers also go with the flow. For instance, Huawei’s latest flagship Mate 8 has this feature. It is believed that there will be more smartphones released with fingerprint recognition so that more fingerprint scanning sensors are demanded from Taiwan suppliers.

ELAN Microelectronics teamed up with fingerprint identification algorithm manufacturer Precise Biometrics officially announced a licensing agreement between the parties for Precise BioMatch Mobile in August. The Precise Biometrics' software product is designed for fingerprint identification on mobile devices.

The integration of Precise BioMatch Mobile with ELAN sensors will allow ELAN to actively compete for and capture a significant share of the huge and high growth market for fingerprint identification estimated at over 2 billion units of smartphones, tablets, NBs and SmartCards annually.

Holtek Semiconductor stated that their MCU and MCU peripherals covered measurement (security) sensors, smart home, smart connect, lighting display, industrial, power management and smart devices. What’s more, the ultra-thin (1mm) hybrid fingerprint sensor GH-8 series boasted of being the world’s only hybrid fingerprint sensor in mass production and No. 1 ultra-high resolution.
