The M2.COM is a platform form factor for sensors. It adopts the standardized, frequently used M.2 form factor and is defined as an evolutionary module that combines general wireless connectivity with additional built-in computing ability powered by MCU.

Miller Chang, Vice President of Embedded Core Group of Advantech, pointed out that “in facing the future Internet of Things requirements, the most urgent problem that needs to be solved is figuring out how to quickly and accurately retrieve data. This necessitates having the following three core capacities: sensing, wireless transmission technology, and embedded computing. Therefore, Advantech is collaborating with other industry partners on the M2.COM open platform. This standardized method will enable large and synchronized data retrieval to be carried out, and it will increase the speed of IoT industry development.”

Advantech stated that this collaboration with industry leaders, such as ARM, Bosch Sensortec, Sensirion, and TI, will hopefully be able to drive and concentrate the IoT application developer companies which enter into this market to carry out more exchanges, collaborations, and reforms. In addition, it is hoped that they will collectively develop linked sensing device markets and industrial networking opportunities with unlimited possibilities.
