AUO’s new Kunshan fab takes only four months to enter mass production, and JDI needs six months. In addition, the amount of TMA of the new fab only requires nice channels; whereas, other factories require eleven channels. This makes AUO’s production costs far lower than those of other manufacturers.

Paul SL Peng, AUO's Chairman & Chief Executive Officer stated that the Kunshan fab will mainly produce high-end mobile phones and notebook computers, and the three largest mobile phone brands in Mainland China are AUO’s customers.

He emphasized that in addition to manufacturing LCD panels, the Kunshan fab will also make in-cell touch and thin glass that enables clients to not have to manufacture touch components elsewhere. AUO’s biggest advantage is that clients will be able to directly fit their products together with AUO’s components.
