MediaTek: Smartphone Upgrade Wave Spreads from China to Other Emerging Markets

TAIPEI, Taiwan - Taiwanese fabless chip manufacturer MediaTek Inc. stated that the smart phone upgrade wave will continue for the next few years and will spread from Mainland China to other emerging markets.

MediaTek on November 29 in Taiwan held a year-end press conference and explained operational performance in 2016 and next year's prospects to media outlets.
MediaTek General Manager Xie Qingjiang stated that MediaTek this year experienced revenue growth in the double digits and shipments are at a new high. Furthermore, MediaTek's market share in the Mainland Chinese market is between forty and fifty percent and thirty percent in the Indian market, which are excellent results.
However, he also pointed out that MediaTek's main challenge is gross profit margins and that they are committed to improving gross margins next year, particularly with the introduction of new products.
MediaTek Executive VP and Joint CEO Zhu Shang-zu stated that MediaTek's 10nm chip, Helio X30, is currently under development according to plans and will be mass produced for customer products during the second quarter of next year.
