“Mixed reality may usher in one of the biggest transformations of our time. Acer is thrilled to be a part of this revolution by bringing our customers this intuitive and exciting way to experience an alternate world with our mixed reality headsets,” said Eric Ackerson, Acer America senior manager, product marketing and brand management.
“Mixed reality offers a plethora of fun and engaging content that is continually evolving. It promises to shape our lives in profound ways in the years to come with its potential for new and more immersive means to learn, collaborate, work and play.”
The Acer Windows Mixed Reality HMD lets customers interact with software using gesture, gaze and voice, while also having the option to use traditional inputs like mice, keyboards and controllers.
The bundled Acer motion controllers use Bluetooth wireless technology, so gamers can take action and interact with digital objects in mixed reality. They come with a Windows 10 button, touchpad, grab button and constellation lights that look cool and serve to sync the headset with the controllers in the virtual space.
With inside-out tracking, the camera is on the headset, so there is no need to drill holes in a wall or set up extraneous hardware. As soon as the headset connects to a Windows Mixed Reality-ready PC, it installs the required software, making it possible to experience mixed reality almost anywhere. The 6-degrees of freedom positional tracking includes forward/back, up/down, left/right as well as pitch, yaw and roll. The headset comes with a 13-foot cable allowing a wide range movement and connects to a PC via HDMI 2.0, while a USB 3.0 connector downloads data.
Acer’s Windows Mixed Reality HMD is lightweight at just 1.34 lbs. A simple adjustment of the headband ensures the perfect fit, which is double-padded with sweat-resistant material for comfort and durability. Two front-hinged 2.89-inch high-resolution liquid crystal displays provide a wide 95-degree field of view and sport a 2880 x 1440 resolution. A fast refresh rate of up to 90Hz delivers clear and realistic images for a fantastic mixed reality experience.
Content is available from the Windows Store. This library is constantly expanding with limitless possibilities for content developers to improve how people communicate, create and explore. Acer also offers a wide variety of Windows Mixed Reality Ultra certified laptop and desktop PCs, including the Acer Nitro 5.
The Acer Windows Mixed Reality AH101 headsets are available in blue, can be pre-ordered from leading retailers for $399.99 (MSRP) and are scheduled to ship on Oct.17, 2017. They come bundled with two wireless motion controllers and a limited one-year parts and labor warranty.
