HSINCHU, Taiwan – In response to the Taiwan government’s “2-Year Solar Power Promotion Plan", AU Optronics Corp. (AUO) has been continuously accelerating its pace in developing solar power systems in recent years. In addition to focusing on rooftop solar power plants, the Company has extended its reach to the ground mount and floating solar power markets to demonstrate its comprehensive capability for solar power plant development.

AUO said it has accumulated years of experience in developing rooftop solar power systems with successful track records across Taiwan. This year, numerous rooftop solar power projects have been completed, including the 998kW grid-connected solar power plant at the momo.com Inc. North Distribution Center and the 499kW solar project on top of the parking shed at the Hota Industrial Mfg. Co. factory.

In terms of large scale projects, AUO has won the 7MW power plant bid at Chung Cheng Armed Forces Preparatory School in Kaohsiung and the 2.1MW power plant bid at Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation in Taichung.

In recent years, AUO further extended its reach to ground mount and floating projects to meet demands for more and different kinds of solar power plants. In terms of ground mount solar power systems, AUO has won the 3.5MW solar power system bid for the landfill of Guanmiao District, Tainan City, which will allow the landfill to be able to generate power and create more financial value.

Due to the environmental condition above water, the module temperature of floating solar power systems can be reduced, resulting in 3% to 5% higher energy efficiency than rooftop systems. Therefore the government has been enthusiastically promoting floating solar power plants in the past few years. This year AUO has won three project bids on flood detention ponds in Tainan and Kaohsiung, totaling an installed capacity of 12MW.

AUO is actively developing solar power systems, and by the end of year 2017 it is expected that the Company will achieve an installed capacity doubling that of last year, contributing to an accumulated installed capacity of 125MW.
