“We are pleased to recognize and celebrate the achievements of the most innovative organizations in the world based on our proprietary analysis. Our methodology, based on Derwent World Patents Index, goes beyond just looking at the volume of patents, using metrics that assess the quality of innovation (patent grant success rates), global reach (breadth of filings), and patent influence as evidenced by citations,” said Daniel Videtto, President of IP and Standards, Clarivate Analytics. “We are extremely pleased to honor ITRI again as a 2017 Top 100 Global Innovator since its first winning in 2014. This global award is a celebration of ITRI’s relentless drive for excellence in innovation, a cornerstone of their success as one of the world’s leading hi-tech research institutes,” he stressed.
ITRI President Dr. Edwin Liu commented that being once again named a Top 100 Global Innovator is a great acknowledgement of ITRI’s constant efforts in technological innovation and IP protection. He emphasized that IP is essential in industrial development and that ITRI has played a leading role in creating valuable IP. “ITRI has been named an Asia IP Elite for five consecutive years, and will continue to deliver high-quality patent portfolios that involve cross-disciplinary technology innovation and have a substantial impact and global reach,” he said.
Peng-Yu Wang, General Director of ITRI’s Technology Transfer and Law Center, indicated that ITRI is dedicated to developing high-value patents and providing comprehensive IP services for Taiwan’s industry. For example, ITRI helps companies increase their competitiveness through contract research and patent activities. With strategic deployment and management, IP can thus become valuable assets of enterprises and produce greater commercial value.
Top 100 Global Innovators were selected as the most successful organizations in the world that are active in innovation through R&D, protection of their IP, and the achievement of commercial success. ITRI has made the list on par with international companies such as Apple, Google, and Intel. Amongst the top 100, ITRI, Fraunhofer, and the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission are the only three government-sponsored research institutions.
