Delta Chairman Yancey Hai stated that part of the new development plan is to develop smart manufacturing, wind power, and energy storage technologies. This is also in line with the vision of smart machinery and green energy technology which is being advanced by the government. Through the automated assistance of smart robots, smart production lines, and the Internet of Things, flexible production of a variety of products in smaller quantities can be achieved, and this will make it possible for factories to be upgraded. Selecting Central Taiwan Science Park as the site for the factory will create employment opportunities for three hundred people, and in the future they will carry out further investment in northern, central, and southern Taiwan. In the next phase Delta will construct a third factory in Tainan to increase R&D related to components.
Delta Electronics General Manager Andy Liu commented that the reason for this robotics R&D headquarters plan is that the Central Taiwan Science Park has an environment with upstream and downstream industries which will allow Delta to carry out R&D and manufacturing more effectively. Automation in the past could all be considered to fall within the category of industry 3.0; however, the industry 4.0 of today is in reference to smart production. For Delta, the key emphasis for products in the future will be in industries related to industrial robots, PC-Based motion controllers, and optical components in order to provide industries with smart manufacturing solutions based on robot arms.
