UL LLC Greater China Region General Manager Shi Hai-yang stated that “USB Type-CTM bidirectional audio-visual assembly data transmission has the capacity to support up to 100 watts of power transmission. When carrying such high power, as soon as the structure is poor, the design will not meet requirements, and it can easily cause damage to the consumer end or products with large-scale consumer returns and risk of overheating and fires. In order to cater to a wider range of applications, such as automotive electronics and smart homes, security must be taken more seriously.”

To date the market safety standard for high-speed transmission of data power cables is UL9990, and through connector control, cable materials, and electrical design, USB performance specifications are being complemented to become the basis for the evaluation of performance and security features for USB cables.

In addition, USB Implementers Forum, Inc. has also released a test certification solution to enable manufacturers to verify product performance through testing.
