For system memory, DDR3L memory, up to 8GB is supported. The module comes equipped with an eDP (embedded DisplayPort) interface and a backlight controller on the module, saving users the trouble of designing it onto the carrier board. The eDP allows a closed connection between the display device and the board that ensures it is not affected by any external interference. The board offers SATA, GPIO, USB 3.0 and 2.0, and VGA support as well as three PCI-E channels for a variety of expansion on the carrier board, such as additional LAN cards and I/O interfaces.

Another feature of this board is its ability to convert video signals via DDI0 and DDI1 for output to DVI, DP, or HDMI devices. As video signals can simultaneously be outputted to any two of the display combinations (eDP, DisplayPort, VGA, HDMI), this module is the ideal solution for Point of Sale (POS) and digital signage applications; the former being in cash counters and the latter in product demonstration. With the benefits of added functionality provided by the PCI-E slots, the COM-BT can be employed in industrial applications such as control and monitoring of factory machinery and equipment.

“Besides providing versatility, the PICMG-govern specs of the COM Express form factor permit modules to be maintained and upgraded easily” said David Hung, Project Manager of AAEON’s Embedded Computing Division.

“Modules with an outdated chipset can simply be replaced with a new module, while keeping all the features of the carrier board. This ensures that the COM-BT continues to stay relevant with the most updated technology. AAEON’s Q-services (carrier board design or customers design validation, BIOS customization and optimization, technical support and bring up services as well as Software development) are also in place to tackle any problems in a timely manner.”

A wide temperature variant with an operating temperature of -40˚C - 85˚C will be available in Q4, 2014.
