The wearables market has been expanding exponentially in recent years, with increasing demand for wearables of larger display size, and higher resolution, DPI and brightness. In addition, wearables design houses and brand owners are putting more emphasis on product aesthetics, leaving shrinking space for the increasing amount of electronic components, which leads to the trend of component miniaturization.

SSD1317 is specially designed to cater to these trends. It is the world’s smallest SEG-COM-SEG orientation PMOLED Display Driver IC to support high brightness PMOLED mono color display with resolution up to 128x96.

Apart from supporting high resolution which allows more content to be displayed on the same panel size, SSD1317 also enhances display quality with an increased DPI. Moreover, this compact-sized SSD1317 supports 600uA segment maximum source current and 80mA common maximum sink current, marking a remarkable advancement of the high brightness PMOLED display technology. PMOLED panels driven by SSD1317 can achieve 1000 cd/m2 brightness, resulting in enhanced sunlight readability.

Furthermore, SSD1317 has proprietary low power display features to further reduce power consumption at standby display mode, ideal for wearable devices with an “Always-On” display.

All in all, the unique features of SSD1317 make it the ideal display solution for wearable applications, like healthcare and fitness trackers.

Raymond Wang, Vice President, Business Operations of Solomon Systech Limited said, “SSD1317, with its innovative competitive features, is catered for wearable devices developers to best capitalize on the surging market needs. In addition, SSD1317’s command set is specially designed to be well compatible with the majority of wearable applications in the market, thereby reducing the software developers’ efforts in software coding, and subsequently shortening the time-to-market of the end products. We see big market potential for this new member in our market-leading PMOLED family”.
