This device is suitable for use in small appliances which require 16 or less touch keys, such as rice cookers, electric kettles, electric ceramic stoves, microwaves, induction cookers and other related products.

Compared with the BS86C16A-3, the new BS87 device includes internal OPA and comparator functions as well as four additional I/O ports. The integrated OPA function can be used to amplify small signals, such as those from sensors, to provide system protection mechanisms. An example among many could be an external shock sensor. Another feature is the internal LED/LCD driver which supports 4 segments with current output control.

This is able to drive LED/LCD displays directly without requiring additional external current-limiting resistors or transistors. The device also includes SPI, I2C and UART interfaces as well as an internal 12-bit A/D converter which can be used to capture analog signals from the external environment, such as temperature, humidity or other voltage signals.

With its high level of functional integration the new device can greatly reduce the need for external components thus reducing costs as well as improving product reliability.

The device is available in 24-pin SOP, 28-pin SOP and 44-pin LQFP package types. The 24-pin SOP and 28-pin SOP package types are fully pin-compatible with the BS86C16A-3.
