Having been established for just two years and already having won two awards proves that Gunitech Corporation is a company that is brimming with brilliance. Gunitech won the prize in 2013 for being a world innovator with the creation of the Gunilamp, which integrated mobile APPs with a bluetooth LED lamp in order allow users to control lighting adjustments and to change the lights’ colors. This year Gunitech has won the COMUTEX d&i award 2014 for creating the Gunitlamp LED Control Box – a household LED smart-lighting application.

Gunitech is a company devoted to providing energy plans for 3C and IT peripheral products. Its products include power supply modules, mobile power supplies, wireless charging, and LED lighting systems. The company is comprised of a group of people who are full of ideas for creating and innovating technology. Gunitech’s members have true enthusiasm, and they are especially dedicated to researching and developing innovative products.

Their award-winning Gunilamp is the world’s first LED bulb lighting product that integrates Bluetooth chip with mobile or tablet devices and uses APPs to make lighting adjustments and to change the lights’ colors.

This innovative thinking has attracted England’s leading Bluetooth chip maker, CSR, and the two companies have joined forces to collaborate on the development of Bluetooth LED lighting technologies. Currently, they are collaborating to create technologies that combine the use of both Bluetooth chips and CSR applications.

Gunitech Senor Director of Marketing, Ray Shiu Ph.D. states that two years ago they noticed Apple iPhones were already equipped with 4.0 Bluetooth chips. However, the market did not have any compatible peripheral products that could be supported. Therefore, they decided to develop related application products, and they first thought of LED lights.

As for why they decided to keep an eye on Bluetooth 4.0 technologies, Technology Manager Bernie Chou states that Bluetooth 4.0’s transmission distance can reach up to 100 meters. Even though it can only reach 50 meters when placed inside lightbulbs, that is still a sufficient range to satisfy the requirements for household use.

Furthermore, the power consumption for Bluetooth is low and online compatibility is easy. It is extremely suitable for use in household electronics products.

From conception to mass production, Gunitech barely spent half a year of time before producing the Gunilamp, a Bluetooth lightbulb that was unrivalled in the world. They applied for ten patents, and at the time there was not a single lighting company that had this kind of technology. It was not until Philips introduced using wifi and Zigbee technology for LED lightbulbs that they had their first competitor; however, Gunitech was completely in the lead for half a year.

This year, Gunitech took a step further and extended their product lines with the research and development of a LED Control Box, the Gunilamp Magic Box, which can wirelessly control multiple LED lights or groups of LED lights. This product is also inlaid with Bluetooth 4.0 chips and has the capability of using mobile or tablet APPs to link up to LED lights on the Magic Box and control their colors and brightness.

In addition, the Magic Box supports multiple types of LED lights and lanterns, including light bulbs, strip lights, and block lamps. Only simple installation is required to immediately have the capability of carrying out smart lighting functions in the home. It is because of this that Gunilamp Magic Box was awarded the COMPUEX d&i award 2014.

Using a mobile APP to control LED lights may not seem so special; however, integrated together this controlling APP is very fun to use. Besides decreasing the complexity of Bluetooth pairing, it can also be integrated with all types of sensors and mobile phones, which allows for more diversity in lighting control. This includes integrating mobile phone microphones to create voice controlled LED functions and integrating motion sensors to allow users to control lighting through bodily motions. This will enable LED lighting to become like a game.

As for future LED lighting controls, Gunitech has unlimited imagination. Ray Shiu Ph.D. states that Gunitech is not just an LED lighting and peripheral manufacturer, but is more akin to a supply company for integrated Bluetooth smart lighting programs. Gunitech strives to meet the needs of clients.

“Energy are our strengths; therefore, as long as applications are related to the resources, we can endeavor to develop them. Lighting is, of course, just one item,” states Ray Shiu Ph.d.
