Reported that, due to the serious shortage of iPhone’s display panel supply, led Apple to look for new supplier. AUO had previously served iPad mini’s display panel, thus Apple once again contracted with AUO for alleviating the supply pressure.

The iPhone’s display panels makers have always been Japan Display Corporation (JDI) and LG Display (LGD), secondary suppliers is Sharp, which JDI and LGD mainly supply 5.5-inch screen of the iPhone 6 Plus, Sharp hands 4.7-inch screen of iPhone 6.

Media also pointed that, AUO had never be the display panel supplier of iPhone before, will start its first provision from the low-end 4-inch screen, and transform its L3A and 3B fab to low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) plant for producing the new display screen of iPhone 7c, to ship it in the first quarter of next year.

However, AUO did not comment on this, therefore, it still remain uncertainty. But if AUO could obtain the order of iPhone 7c, which means AUO’s phone display technology have been approved by the toppest customer, which will also help its development in the global mobile market.
