ITRI’S Robotic Tactile Module Equipped 3,000 Sensors

TAIPEI, Taiwan - The institute of Industrial Technology Research (ITRI), a Taiwan-based research institute, yesterday released a new “Robotic tactile module”, which equipped with high-density sensors, can sensor distances and touch from the human’s finger, even stopped by one finger.

ITRI’S Robotic tactile module is adopted a large number of high-leveled sensors. When operator is approaching, it automatically decelerate the speed of robot of 60%; the robot will run more slowly as the operator is closer and stop soon if be touched by finger.
Jwu-Sheng Hu, General Director of Mechanical and Systems Lab of ITRI, said that more than 3,000 sensors are installed in this tactile sensor module, which is much more than the quantities, about a hundred ones, used by Germany and Japan. The industrial robots, adopted tactile module, will upgrade to be safety robots and provide better services for their customers for the first quarter of next year.
Recently, industrial robots and industrial automation have become the key strategic emerging industries in Taiwan, China and India. The innovation of robot tactile module will contribute to robots industry to develop a new type of intellectual products to take its place on the trend of intellectual production.
