Ali Co. Will Showcase Optimized STB Chipsets in Sao Paulo

TAIPEI, Taiwan — Integrated circuit designer Ali Co. will showcase optimized STB chipsets at the ABTA 2015 in Sao Paulo, Brazil on August 4 to 6. The company’s booth is J7, which will present cost effective and performance optimized STB chipsets, that can assist users to deliver fast time-to-market solutions to targeted market segments.

ABTA Expo & Conference is a reference in debates on the future of pay TV, focusing on innovation in video services. In particular, the event showcases new technologies and content distribution solutions such as video on demand, IPTV and over-the-top platforms (OTT), as well as advertising, satellites and IT, and the growing innovation in linear and high-definition content distribution.

Ali will feature its latest DVB solutions including Cable, S2, T2, ISDB-T and OTT solution at the exhibition.

Apart from that, the company plans to buy back 4.55 million of its shares, or 1.5 percent of outstanding stock, on the open market, the company said on July 30. The share buyback is to begin today and run through September 30, with the company planning to repurchase the shares at between NT$10.1 and NT$22.1 each.

However, Ali shares ended 1.58 percent higher at NT$12.85 on July 30. The company reported a second-quarter loss of NT$135 million (US$4.27 million), or NT$0.46 per share, and sales dropped significantly to NT$658 million last quarter due to softening demand in most emerging markets and a slowdown in Pay-TV operator demand.

Ali said decreasing product margin for certain segments and inventory provisions caused its gross margin to fall 3 percentage points quarterly to 39 percent last quarter.
