Fitbit to Establish a Branch and R&D Center in Taiwan

TAIPEI, Taiwan - According to Taiwan's Economic Daily News, in observing Taiwan's manufacturing and research and development capabilities, American wearable devices manufacturer, Fitbit will establish a branch company and a research and development center in Taiwan. The company has already assembled a team of approximately 30 employees.

Fitbit in just a few years has become the leading company in the global sports wear device market and last year in New York City, USA carried out a Initial Public Offering (IPO).

According to company registration data at Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs, in Taiwan Fitbit is registered under the name “FITBIT INTERNATIONAL, LLC” in Songshan District, Taipei City. The company manager is registered as Andrew Missan, who is also Vice President and General Counsel and is in charge of global legal issues for Fitbit.

Economic Daily News reported that Fitbit in August of this year announced their formal entry into Taiwan's market and then established a company in Taiwan. This signifies that the company is not only optimistic about Taiwan's consumer markets but also considers the research and development strengths of technological supply chain manufacturers in Taiwan for wearable devices to be important.

Currently Fitbit's supply chain in Taiwan includes PMOLED supplier WiseChip Semiconductor Inc, light guide manufacturer Global Lighting Technologies Inc., connector supplier SIMULA, OEM manufacturer Inventec, and Taiwanese agent Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd.
