Pepper Robot Officially Start on Duty in Taiwan

TAIPEI, Taiwan – Pepper, a service robot which made by Softbank and Foxconn, officially stepped into the commercial use in Taiwan from this month. Including the First Bank, Cathay Life Insurance and Asia-Pacific Telecom(APT) all enabled their Pepper staffs in these two days, use this human-like robot to provide basic consultation services for the customers.

Since introducing Pepper robot into Taiwan market earlier this year, APT officially announced in October 5 that its Pepper robots started to handle the practical work in Taichung City.

APT said that Pepper robots is going to work at its twenty-five stores in Taiwan from today, where Peppers will provide greeting, welcome reception, product introduction, telecom program recommendation, interactive gaming and entertainment performance.

In the First Bank, Pepper’s daily work time is from AM 8:30 to PM 5:30, to serve about one hundred customers in a day. The services include welcome, environmental introduction and product introduction, and will provide customized services in the near future.

The First Bank has rent a total of twenty Pepper robots in the phase one, and will deploy these robots in the larger branches in Taipei City and central and southern Taiwan, the monthly rental fee of each Pepper is more than NT$2,200. The First Bank also said that they are planning to have Pepper working in all their branches in Taiwan.

Cathay Life said that they are the only one life insurance company in Taiwan using Pepper robot. The company will station two Pepper robots in the Taipei head office and the East Nanjing Road Service Center in the beginning, and will have ten robots one month later, which will be distributed in the five large service center including Taoyuan, Taichung, Tainan, Kaohsiung and Taipei.
