Terry Gou stated because the United States does not have a LCD panel industry, based on cost considerations if there were to be investment, display panels would be the main industry for investment. Furthermore, Pennsylvania would be the first consideration with investment exceeding US$7 billion.

Terry Gou pointed out that SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son gave him a phone call before going to the United States and said that SoftBank was going to invest in America and asked whether or not Hon Hai would also invest there. At the time he replied that he was considering investing in the United States.

He said the thought it was a private conversation; however, after Masayoshi Son met with President Trump he exposed the matter.

Terry Gou stated that investing in the United States is something that he has been constantly considering, and panels are an industry that is lacking in America. He said that in the future regardless of whether for televisions or for the Internet, panels will be necessary. When conducting research on investing in that state, they found that Pennsylvania provides good investment terms including convenient land and utilities.

In addition, Terry Gou also stated than Sharp's panel technology is the most mature, so it would be most appropriate for Sharp to invest there.
