Taiwan Expense $1 Billion to Accelerate 4G Evolvement

Taipei, Taiwan-NCC chairman Shi shi-Hao said on Monday that the Executive Yuan, the Ministry of Communications and NCC have reached a consensus to spending $USD3 billion in three years to accelerate the development of Taiwan 4G, push 4G popularity faster than 3G. In addition, NCC will release 1900 and 2600MHz spectrum for higher bandwidth demand, the draft plan will be completed this year.

Shi shi-Hao said that while 4G services operate, will need more bandwidth to support improving the quality of communication, thus NCC determine to release 1900 and 2600MHz spectrum for increasing performance, the Spectrum release plan is scheduled for completion this year.

As to how much bandwidth will be released? Shi said :“It Still in evaluation”.

In the past, the spectrum release process was very complicated in Taiwan, now the overall responsibility of spectrum auction planning and execution will for the NCC.

According to the NCC’s review progress, Taiwan 4G may start operations in June of this year, NCC said that has been approved operating plan of Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile and FETnet, carriers can start their business in June.
