Hon Hai to Build I.A Center for Robotics in Taichung Harbor

Taichung , Taiwan - Hon Hai Group is expected to invest NT $ 100 billion in Taichung Harbor to develop a intelligence automation innovation center, the largest robotics R&D center and production base. Taichung Harbor Services Branch, said Hon Hai investment plan will be officially proposed in the near future , the fastest to start this year.

Taichung City Economic Development Bureau said that Hon Hai 's original plan was to locate in Taichung Science Park , but it took seven years to land ownership changes and EIA estimates, thus Hon Hai Group decided to transfer to Taichung Harbor .

Currently Taichung Harbor has been included in free economic demonstration zone , and play an important platform for cross-strait affairs, it will bring the benefit of reducing tariffs and excise concessions on re-export of imported semi-finished assembly of Hon Hai’s robot R&D and manufacturing center.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Hon Hai has teamed up with Google to develop robotics, chairman Terry Gou had met Andy Rubin “the father of Android” in Taipei to discuss the new robot technology, accelerating toward the "Million robots" goal.

Cho Yong Choi, chairman of Taiwan Machine Tool and Accessory Builders' Association, said Sunday , Taichung is a precision machinery industry town, after Hon Hai’s robot R & D and manufacturing base stationed, can quickly create a complete satellite supply chain, to become the new city of the robotics industry.

Analysts pointed out that Hon Hai’s "intelligence automation innovation center" will help the development of Taiwan's precision machinery parts and components industry, to accelerate the transformation and upgrading of smart automation.

Smart manufacturing and robotics is the mainstream of global Industry, Taiwan government also said it would fully develop smart automation technology toward the trillion dollar industry.
