Two questions were popped up by Asus Chairman Jonney Shih, “Does good smartphones equal to higher costs?” and “The design of entry levels to mid-tier smartphxones are bound to be dull?” Obviously, these two questions are negative for ZenFone.

The mainland-based rising smartphone Xiaomi is famous for its comparably low price and the above average hardware performance. Asus's ZenFone can be viewed as the Taiwan version of Xiaomi. Coincidently, it is believed that the main target market will be China and the direct competitor will be Xiaomi according critics.

However, the appearance of ZenFone also means the war between processors has been initiated. ZenFone 4-6 is a trio of the Intel-powered smartphones, where as most of the Xiaomi's smartphones are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC, some of which are powered by MediaTek.

ZenFone series were first unveiled in January at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, and come in screen sizes of 4-6 inches to target mainstream buyers.

The Zenfone 4 has a 4-inch display and an Intel Atom Z2520 1.2GHz dual-core processor, while the ZenFone 5 goes for its 5-inch IPS panel with a resolution of 1280x720, either Intel Atom Z2560 1.6GHz for A501CG or Intel Atom Z2580 2.0GHz for A500CG , both are dual-core processor and an 8-megapixel camera.

The relatively higher-end ZenFone 6 sports an advanced 6-inch touch screen and 13-megapixel camera, along with a Intel Atom Z2580 2.0GHz dual-core processor and an 13-megapixel camera, the company announced.
