President Ma: 4G Users to Reach 10 Million in 2016

TAIEPI, Taipei- When President Ma Ying-jeou on Tuesday attended “The Big Future of 4G” summit he expressed his complete commitment to developing 4G networking in Taiwan adding that the original goal of reaching 10 million users in 2017 with 90% 4G coverage has been moved forward and instead will have been reached by the time he leaves office in May 2016.
President Ma stated that setting up 4G is an indispensable part of his ten golden years of policy making. In the future, the government will release 2.66 GHz, and by 2018 mobile broadband will release a total bandwidth of 640 MHz. In 2020 Taiwan will require a broadband of 1,000 MHz, and considering the international trend, in addition to being used for 4G services, this broadband spectrum will also speed up the development of mobile industries.
Echoing President Ma’s commitment, Executive Yuan council member Jiang Bing-huang stated that the development of 4G networking will promote industry upgrades as well as the development of smart cities, smart transportation and e-commerce. In addition, the Executive Yuan has made of provision of NT$15 billion to invest in 4G industries. The first wave of 4G creative application services will be introduced at the end of this year.
As the first company to provide 4G services in Taiwan, Chunghwa Telecom is eagerly anticipating 4G development. Chunghwa Telecom General Manager Rick L Tsai stated that Chunghwa Telecom is taking the lead in promoting 4G services and fully committed to high-quality 4G development. He believes that 4G is not only wireless networking technology but also a new platform for digital convergence. In the future data, voice, and audiovisual content will be put together to supply users with diverse services.
