HTC to Return to the OEM/ODM Business

TAIPEI, Taiwan — Taiwan smartphone maker HTC said today that it will returen to the OEM/ODM business, seeking the next dark horse. Zhou Yong-ming, CEO of HTC verified that HTC is going to return to the OEM/ODM business, it will be a dual system for its HTC branded and OEM/ODM products. It will be the first time that HTC returned to the OEM/ODM business since 2006.

Zhou Yong-ming said in a coming new book that HTC returned to OEM/ODM business for creating new values. He believes that by returning to OEM/ODM business HTC will roll out more competitive tablets and wearables. In other words, OEM/ODM business is somewhat like a practice for HTC.
However, HTC gave up its OEM/ODM business in 2006, now returned to it, it's believed that has something to do with the slump sale of HTC smartphones in these years.
Zhou Yong-ming stated “in different period of time, people need to make different decisions. HTC to return to the OEM/ODM business is a inevitable decision, but also at the right timing.”
It is said that the coming Google tablet is an OEM/ODM product of HTC.
