TAIPEI, Taiwan — Though the wireless charging IC seems a low-volume production, Taiwanese IC firms like ENE Technology, Richtek Technology, and Holtek Semiconductor are Qi-certified. Take ENE Technology into account, the company's wireless charging products including sender and receiver, and the product ranging from IC and module, now at the sample presentation.

Kirk Skaugen, the senior Vice President in charge of Intel 's PC chip business, said that the wireless charging technology is going to support handset and tablet, eliminating all external wires of 3C products is possible after 2015.

As the wireless charging ecosystem is forming, Intel, Qualcomm, MediaTek are also ready for this trend. Taiwanese IC design developers surely have fostered the related technologies, Holtek Semiconductor, Richtek Technology, and ENE Technology are memebers of WPC, and all are Qi-certified.

Richtek Technology launched the low-power consumption receiver was Qi-certified in October, and it is the second Taiwanese IC design firm to get this certification after MediaTek. Then Holtek Semiconductor's low-power consumption sender was Qi-certified on November 14, while ENE Technology was Qi-certified by its customer and penetrating the wireless charging market, aiming at the Chinese market.

ENE Technology, Richtek Technology, and Holtek Semiconductor forcast that the wireless charging IC will be put into limited production, however, Holtek Semiconductor Spokesperson Li Pei-ying said that there is needed a year for wireless charging market to blossom.

According to ENE Technology, wireless charging technology is definitely one of the next big things, but it is still limited by the conversion efficiency, compatibility, and unification. After solving all these tasks, wireless charging technology will be applied in wearables.
