UBS: Semiconductor Industry to Combine the Smart Appliances

TAIPEI, Taiwan — An analyst from UBS pointed out that one of the trends of semiconductor industry in 2015 is to crossover businesses, platforms in a bid to collaborate with one another. Network firms to combine with smart appliances is one of the possible way to work it out.

Chen Hui-ming, an analyst from UBS said that in terms of the price war of 28 nanometer PolySiON technology and 14 nanometer, 16 nanometer process, referring to that the revenue of foundry industry will be decreased.

He suggested that there are three trends in semiconductor industry in 2015, including big firms remain big, semiconductor industry in China will enter the more intensifed era, crossing over of businesses and platforms seek for cooperations.

He expressed that the barriers of entering 14 nanometer and 16 nanometer process will be harder and harder resulted in there will be more and more companies to go to China.

Chen Hui-ming stated out that there will be another big trend in semiconductor industry is to cross over businesses and platforms with the view to work with one another. For example, many network firms in China teamed up with handset developers to build the ecosystem, hoping to be the Chinese version of Google. Currently, there are six ecosystems forming in China.

Regarding to the crossover collaborations, he said that nowadays people automatically hook up to Google, Yahoo, or Facebook so there will be few chance for Taiwanese network firms to develop. To team up with smart appliances firms is a good prospect.
