XYZprinting: Kids May Determine the Future of 3D Printing

SHANGHAI, China — There is no doubt that 3D printing is an unmistakable trend, a 3D printing seminar was held at CES Asia 2015 and XYZprinting’s CEO, Simon Shen from Taiwan shown up as an industry expert, and discussed the chance and challenge of the business.

“Multi-color printing, printing speed and multi-material printing will be the three major big things of 3D printing.” commented Simon Shen. He assumed that multi-color printing will be realized in three to five years.
Interestingly, Simon Shen shared that in the beginning of this year, he found out how important and suitable are 3D printing for children. “My daughter wanted to changed her 3G SIM card into 4G, and she remarked that she was going to sell phone cases to make money out of a 3D printer.”
Simon Shen then emphasized the importance of 3D printing in the educational market by saying that Chinese and Taiwanese government have incorporated 3D printing in the curriculum. Therefore, he said that the imagination and innovation of a ten-year old child will have a great impact on this industry.
Nevertheless, Simon Shen believed that scanning technologies will be one of the major wave of 3D printing industry. Relatively, the coming WIN 10 is going to be a great platform of 3D printing with the view that the built-in RealSense feature.
However, Simon Shen also worried there are businesses being challenged by 3D printing. For instance, plastics, ceramics and toys industries will be bearish.
When asked about the intelligent property issues that concerned 3D printing, Simon Shen answered that since there are open source images growing in numbers, it’s not a problem because 3D printing is a highly customized industry in terms of its printouts. “User wants one-of-a-kind products out of 3D printer.”
Last but not the least, according to XYZprinting, its high-expected food printer will be launched in the second half of this year.
