MediaTek subsidiary Announces The Acquisition of ILITEK, A LCD Driver IC Firm

TAIPEI, Taiwan - Mstar Semiconductor, a MediaTek subsidiary, announced yesterday that the company is planning to merge ILITEK, a Taiwanese analog IC design company. The total transaction is about NT$3.66 billion. After the merger, the two sides will work together to enhance the competitiveness of display ICs.

Mstar Semiconductor scheduled to acquire 100% share to ILITEK in cash, in total of about NT$3.66 billion. ILITEK will hold a provisional shareholders meeting in Oct. 26 to discuss the upcoming merger. ILITEK is a analog and mixed IC provider focus on a-Si TFT and LTPS driver IC.

Huang Chi- Mod, chairman of ILITEK, said, the partnership between ILITEK and Mstar Semiconductor like foront-end and back-end, the two sides cooperate closely. After discussion, we believe that the merger is the best way for each other.

For Mstar Semiconductor, the company already has a TV ICs, monitor ICs and integrated timing controller, but need to add bulid-in control ICs from other companies in its solutions. This acquisition will help Mstar Semiconductor to shorten its product development time.
