Netflix to Set the Challenge for Taiwan’s OTT TV Market

TAIPEI, Taiwan - Netflix is going to be heading to Taiwan and may work with Chunghwa Telecom on not only cooperation of cash flow at the beginning but OTT platform in the future.
OTT(Over The Top)is a kind of service by providing all application services for customers through internet. Until now, the most successful service mode is smartphone APP. Now, the world’s cable TV or cableless TV is going to be facing challenges from OTT service.
Chunghwa Telecom is the largest telecommunication service provider in Taiwan and also provides OTT service including MOD, Chtvideo and Hami TV.
Netflix’s action will stimulate the growth of Taiwan’s OTT TV service industry but meanwhile give an impact for the domestic provider without exception for Chunghwa Telecom.
Chunghwa Telecom has no comment at this time on this news.
Netflix announced yesterday that the company plans to enter Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan in the first quarter of 2016.
