UMC’s Fab8A Firm Wins the EEP Award for 13th Consecutive Years

TAIPEI, Taiwan — The Fab8A firm of Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) wins the EEP Award for 13th consecutive years. What’s more, the company forecast that its gross margin for the October to December period is expected to fall to 17 to 19 percent.

In an investor conference held by the end of October, the company said that it posted NT$1.71 billion in net profit for the July to September period, down 62.9 percent from a quarter earlier, with earnings per share at NT$0.14.

In the third quarter, the company said that lingering inventory adjustments in the world market pushed down its gross margin by 3.3 percentage points from a quarter earlier to 19.6 percent. Its production capacity utilization rate for the same quarter also fell to 89 percent from 94 percent recorded in the second quarter.

Since 1992, the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) has been given the “Annual Enterprises Environmental Protection (EEP) Award of the republic of China (ROC)”. Each year ten to fifteen organizations are honored for their outstanding performance in environmental protection.

Moreover, the EEP Award is the highest honor for enterprises devote to environmental protection, and the awardees are also regarded as models for other business for their excellent environmental performance.
