MediaTek Keens to Stay Ahead of 5G Technology

TAIPEI, Taiwan - MediaTek Chief Technology Officer Kevin Jou yesterday said at MWC 2016 that the company has already entered the developing stage of 5G technology, which is expected to commercialize in 2020.

5G technology is the highlight of the MWC this year. Including Intel, Huawei and Qualcomm were all showcasing their 5G technologies. MediaTek also announced that the company has cooperated with Japanese carrier NTT DOCOMO on the development of 5G technology and market, and scheduled to commercialize in 2020.
Kevin Jou noted that MediaTek has more preparation in the 5G in comparison with the 4G and 3G period, that will led MediaTek to accumulate more IP power. Currently, MediaTek has established a research team with around one hundred people in 5G products development.
In addition to working with DOCOMO, Kevin Jou said that MediaTek has contact with other key national operators, will cooperate with other countries.
