3GPP’s 5G Standards Development Conference Hold in Kaohsiung, Taiwan

TAIPEI, Taiwan – A 5G standards development international conference of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), a telecommunications standard development organization, was held by Taiwanese technology companies and government organizations on the October 10th in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

There were over 400 international telecommunications experts and High - level personnel from equipment providers, chip companies, telecom operators and academic organizations joined this event including Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom, MediaTek, Sercomm Corporation and Arcadyan.

The 5G standards development international conference will be held in Kaohsiung for two consecutive weeks, and during this period, Taiwan’s Taiwan Association of Information and Communication Standards (TAICS), MediaTek and Chunghwa Telecom will host an event titled “5G Technology Workshop- Potential Technology for 3GPP Rel-15 Standardization” at October 15th to share views on Rel-15 New Radio (NR) Work/Study Item and facilitate scope harmonization.

TAICS said, including NTT DoCoMo, China Mobile, Nokia, Ericsson, Samsung, Qualcomm, Intel, as well as Chunghwa Telecom, MediaTek are involved in this workshop to discuss the future of 5G technology, standardization.

At present, Taiwan is actively developing 5G technology. Taiwan's Far EasTone Telecommunications and Nokia have jointly formed the Taiwan's first 5G experimental network; Taiwan Mobile and Nokia have signed 5G memorandum of cooperation; Taiwan Star Telecom also worked with Nokia to build 5G experimental network; and government – supported GNAR Labs and Keysight Technologies signed a MOU of 5G communication technology cooperation.
