Construction of TSMC's 12-inch chip manufacturing plant in Nanjing began on July 7 of last year, and the installation ceremony was held yesterday. At the ceremony, Morris Chang stated, “TSMC's Nanjing factory will significantly improve the standards of local chip OEMs in Mainland China. We have completely designed an ecological chain which will assist in the growth of Mainland China's integrated circuit design industry.”

Morris Chang emphasized that TSMC is the global leader in semiconductor technology, production capabilities, and services with a record US$29.4 billion in revenue last year. Beginning this year, TSMC's market value is at a new high, and since the commencement of construction on July 7 of last year, revenue has increased by 30% from US$136 billion to over US$180 billion.

Morris Chang pointed out that there are high hopes and expectations for TSMC's Nanjing factory, which is a new landmark for the future development of Nanjing City. In addition, he believes that Nanjing will give birth to an environment which is truly suitable for development of the semiconductor manufacturing industry and supportive of the development of TSMC, equipment manufacturing partners, and the global semiconductor manufacturing industry.
