Taiwan's MOST Looking for a Rising Star of Industry

TAIPEI , Taiwan - Taiwan's Ministry of Science and Technology on Monday formally established, first minister Chang Shan-zheng said that will establish two consultative council of "academic research " and "promotion of industry-university cooperative research ", divided by Academia Sinica President Wong Chi-huey and former CEO of III, National Taiwan University Professor Roy S. Lee, as the convener, hoping to improve the quality of research papers , and to find out the potential of commercialization.

Chang Shan-zheng said that academic research advisory council will be composed of university presidents, leaded by Wong Chi-huey, to identify the world's leading research of Taiwan ; while also helping to solve social problems in the future, Grant funds are no longer depending on how many papers published and how many points may be.

" Many people finish their research, then put the papers on the shelf, and that’s it ." Chang Shan-zheng said.

Promotion of industry-university cooperative research advisory council is to dig out "papers on the shelf," to see which have the practical and commercial potential. Like rough diamonds, as long as a little dull, it may become rising stars of industry.

In addition to exploring excellent research, the industry-university advisory council to better understand the actual needs of the industry, to engage in innovative demand-oriented research; industry-university advisory cooperative research council will lead by Roy S. Lee, co-work with regular contact with the industry's research units such as III, ITRI, etc., to review which academic research has be done, do not duplicate research with academia.

Chang Shan-zheng also proposed a new mechanism for training tech Talent, such as allowing graduate students to contact with industry for developing a research subject meet industry's needs; allow students to work in the enterprise in spare time, and to give full pay. If qualified, then employ after two or three years.

Currently the industry is looking forward MOST solve industrial problems, such as employee bonuses, industrial retention, procurement of ICT industry. Chang Shan-zheng said these issues will be jointly deal with Ministry of Economy and Industry Bureau and other units.
