FET signed 5G MoU with Ericsson to Develop 5G in Taiwan

Ericsson announced last week signing of a 5G Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Far EasTone, a leading telecom operator in Taiwan to jointly accelerate 5G development for Taiwan.

Under the agreement, a first 5G Lab in Taiwan is to be established at T-park, New Taipei Ciy in Taiwan. The Lab will be able to pioneer and innovate technologies such as enhanced network performance, IoT core platform, cloud-based technologies and advanced radio technology, with intention to advance technology evolution towards 5G.

Both parties will also collaborate and promote the evolution of 4G to 5G technology in Taiwan to academic institutions, public offices, industry bodies and enterprises, in order to bring latest mobile technologies and services to support more than 100 million connected devices at a 100 times faster connection speed for consumers and enterprises in Taiwan by 2020.

Yvonne Li, President of FET says: “We share the networked society vision with Ericsson and we believe Taiwan has to move toward industry transformation with full speed. Through our joint efforts with Ericsson, we are taking an important step toward bringing 5G capabilities to Taiwan, enabling the deployment of next generation of ICT applications and pioneering 5G services for consumers and enterprises, especially in the areas of transportation, media and utilities.”
